No Dance, No Palaver

Description

No Dance, No Palaver is a series of three works produced by artist Onyeka Igwe and are the culmination of her research into the Aba Women’s War of 1929. All of the films use the first anti-colonial uprising in Nigeria as a entry point to experiment with colonial moving images relating to West Africa during the first half of the 20th century. Igwe utilises material from the colonial archive, employing it as a mode of resistance. This programme has been co-curated with LUX Scotland and Onyeka Igwe, and Onyeka has chosen two films to be shown alongside her trilogy.

Filmmaker Onyeka Igwe will be in attendance for a post-screening Q&A.

These films have been programmed in partnership with LUX Scotland.
