Finding Fela

Synopsis

This exciting documentary looks at the life and music of the late Fela Anikulapo Kuti, a Nigerian musician and activist known globally as one of the founders of Afrobeat. This documentary exposes how Kuti used Afrobeat to articulate the civil tensions of 1980s Nigeria and the people fighting for democracy. We come to understand the relevance of Afrobeat, not just as a revolutionary music genre but as a radical political movement that birthed a new voice for Nigeria.

Following the screening there will be a live performance from Ayawara, a West African percussion and dance group.
